The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) and the Korea Wind Energy Association (KWEA) hosted the 8th World Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition (WWEC2009), which took place on Jun 23-25, 2009 at Jeju Island, South Korea.
Jeju Island is the ideal location for the 8th World Wind Energy Conference: Wind Power for Islands-Offshore and Onshore, as the island accommodates South Korea’s first wind farm. The Jeju Province government represents a share of one third of the island’s electricity, targeting 500 MW of installed wind capacity for the year 2020. In addition, the South Korean government recently announced its 3 trillion won investment for the next five years specifically for the renewable energy sector in Korea.
The WWEC2009 event brought together many countries involved in the wind and electricity sectors for 3 days of intensive networking and information exchange through panels and presentations to discuss the role of wind energy in the context of climate change, the evolution of international renewable technology and energy markets. New technologies to suppliers and manufacturers in the wind and renewable energy sector was also showcased during the Trade Show Exhibition. More information available at: http://www.2009wwec.com
