Morocco confirms 850MW tender results (Windpowermonthly)

MOROCCO: A consortium of Enel Green Power (EGP), Nareva and Siemens has been officially named as preferred bidders to develop five projects in Morocco, totalling 850MW

The consortium will be responsible for the design, finance, construction, operation and maintainance of the five projects following a delayed competitive tender. The five wind farms, which represent more than €1 billion of investment, will be completed under a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) contract for a 20-year term. Acciona; EDF Energies Nouvelles with Alstom (now part of GE Renewables), QWEC of Qatar and FIPAR of Morocco; ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia with Gamesa; and Engie (formerly GDF Suez)/International Power with Vestas all submitted bids last year.

Construction will start as soon as the final documents are signed, with the projects expected online between 2017 and 2020.

As part of the deal, which was judged on price and plans for local manufacture, Siemens last week announced it would build a rotor blade factory near Tangier, to start operating in 2017.
